Former Dallas Cowboys assistant George Edwards joining Tampa Bay Buccaneers staff

When one door closes, another one opens. After leaving the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff following the conclusion of the season, former senior defensive assistant George Edwards has landed the outside linebackers job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Also joining the Bucs for the 2023 season is former Cowboys running backs coach Skip Peete. NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported on Peete’s move earlier on Tuesday.
Edwards and Peete were two of eight staff members who did not get their contracts renewed for another season in Dallas.
George Edwards was co-defensive coordinator for the Vikings before joining the Cowboys on Mike McCarthy’s staff. He’s also served as DC for Washington and Buffalo in his more than two decades in the league. His stint with the Cowboys was his second, having previously coached linebackers for Dallas from 1998-2001.
Edwards got into coaching after a standout career as a linebacker at Duke University. His first jobs were at Florida, App State and Duke before he became defensive line coach at Georgia in 1997.
