Former Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves tries out for Chicago Bears
Vernon Hargreaves is still looking for his next landing spot in the NFL. The former Florida star tried out for the Chicago Bears on Friday, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.
Hargreaves played for the Cincinnati Bengals last season after previous stops with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans. He starred at Florida from 2013-15 before the Buccaneers drafted him No. 11 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Hargreaves began the 2021 season with the Texans and started five out of eight games before his release. The Bengals picked him up off the waiver wire and he was with the team when they made it to the Super Bowl. However, he cost Cincinnati a 15-yard penalty and was fined for running out onto the field during that game at SoFi Stadium even though he was inactive for the game.
At Florida, Hargreaves had 121 tackles and 10 interceptions during his three-year career. He had a huge year as a junior in 2015 with four interceptions for 152 yards to help the Gators to a 10-4 overall record and a Citrus Bowl appearance.

The Bears could be looking to add some depth as training camp gets going, especially at the cornerback position. They have Jaylon Johnson in tow and drafted former Washington standout Kyler Gordon in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but might add some help behind them as new coach Matt Eberflus builds out his defense.
Chicago is coming off a wave of change this offseason after a 6-11 record in 2021. The Bears moved on from general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy after the season and moved to hire Ryan Poles and Eberflus to replace them in their respective roles. They’ll be tasked with developing quarterback Justin Fields in his second NFL season.
