WATCH: Former Florida quarterback Kyle Trask tosses perfect touchdown pass in preseason opener
Kyle Trask is making plays this preseason for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the third quarter of Saturday’s contest against Miami, Trask delivered a perfect 19-yard touchdown pass to Jerreth Sterns.
The score brought the Buccaneers within two points of the Dolphins at the time, making the score 23-21. On the next drive, Trask would lead the team within field goal range as Jose Borregales nailed a 55-yard field goal to give them the lead.
Although Blaine Gabbert started the game for Tampa Bay, Trask took over in the second quarter. The Florida product finished 25-for-33 passing for 258 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Both Gabbert and Trask will start the season behind Tom Brady, who returns for his 23rd NFL season.
Miami would later retake the lead on a 53-yard field goal from Jason Sanders to go up 26-24. That would ultimately be the final score as Borregales missed what would have been the game-winning field goal as time expired.

The Buccaneers selected Trask in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He did not see any action during his rookie season as he was behind both Brady and Gabbert on the depth chart. After Brady originally announced his retirement this season, it seemed like Trask could get a chance to compete for a starting job in 2022. However, Brady would eventually reverse course, unretiring in March.
But if Kyle Trask continues to impress in the preseason, it certainly won’t hurt his future chances once Brady hangs it up for good. In the meantime, he’ll have a chance to continue to learn from one of the greatest to ever play. Tampa Bay has two more preseason games remaining on its schedule: Aug. 20 against Tennessee and Aug. 27 against Indianapolis.
