Saturday, was apparently a bad day to be former Florida Gator Pete Alonso’s bat in Saturday’s Mets vs. Marlins matchup. First, the New York Mets’ slugger was furious after one play, so he decided to take it out on his bat. The result wasn’t pretty for the bat and he ended up splitting it over his knee.

Not to worry, Alonso would recover later in the game. He blasted a crucial solo shot over the center-field wall in the eighth inning that would put the Mets on top, 4-3.

Check out Alonso snapping the bat over his knee and the pivotal home run blast below.

The Mets ended up winning Saturday’s matchup 5-3, and a big reason for that was thanks to Alonso — he had two home runs and two RBIs, one homer in the second inning and one in the eighth inning (above).

That makes it the 14th career multi-home run game for the former Florida star — the 7th most in Mets’ franchise history. Alonso also now has 68 RBIs this season–tying him with Mike Piazza in 2000 for the most through June in Mets history. He already has 22 home runs this season and is once again proving to everyone that he’s one of the best power hitters in league history.
