Former Kentucky, Ole Miss defensive back Keidron Smith signs UDFA deal after 2023 NFL Draft
Former Kentucky Wildcats and Ole Miss Rebels defensive back Keidron Smith has signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Miami Dolphins following the 2023 NFL Draft, per Matt Zenitz of On3.
“The #Dolphins are set to sign former Kentucky and Ole Miss defensive back Keidron Smith as an undrafted free agent, a source tells @on3sports,” tweeted Zenitz. “Posted 47 tackles and two interceptions for Kentucky last year.”
As Zenitz mentioned, Smith played well for the Wildcats in 2022, amassing 47 tackles and two interceptions as a part of the Kentucky defense last season.
With the Dolphins, Smith may have a shot to make a name for himself. Freshly-minted defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is always looking for play-makers, and his vast knowledge of that side of the football could go a long way towards helping the defensive back.
Nevertheless, while Keidron Smith didn’t hear his name called over the weekend, he’ll have his shot at making a name for himself at the NFL level moving forward.

What NFL Draft experts are saying about former Kentucky Wildcats and Ole Miss Rebels defensive back Keidron Smith
Moreover, NFL Draft analyst Lance Zierlein took a look at what Keidron Smith could bring to an NFL franchise prior to last weekend, and believes that he could make an impact in the league, although he may have to move to safety in the future.
“Big, strong cornerback lacking top-end speed and an athletic lower half to stay connected with routes,” wrote Zierlein. “Smith plays with physicality as his default. He has the demeanor and skills necessary to clean up the flanks as a run defender.
“He’s not anticipatory enough for deep zone coverages at cornerback, but he might have a fighting chance to make a roster if he is utilized as a bump-and-sink Cover 2 corner or if he makes a transition to safety.”
