The 2022 NBA Draft is only a week away and former Michigan star Caleb Houstan has been busy showing off his skills to a number of franchises leading up to the big event. The sharpshooting freshman worked out for the Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies earlier in the week, per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.

In his latest mock draft, Givony projects the former Michigan forward to be selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the No. 29 overall selection in the first round.

In his freshman season for the Maize and Blue, Houstan averaged 10.1 points per game for the Wolverines, while also corralling 4.0 rebounds per game, and dishing out 1.4 assists per game. He also shot 38.4 percent from the field this season, connecting on 35.5 percent of his shots from deep.

Houstan flashed big-time ability in back-to-back games against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (Feb. 23) and the No. 15 Illinois Fighting Illini (Feb. 27). Against Rutgers, he connected on 5-of-9 three-point attempts, pouring in 21 points. Against Illinois, the Montverde product drilled two-of-three shots from beyond-the-arc and hit all seven of his free throws en route to another 21-point performance.

While he didn’t have quite the season many were expecting of him, he did show flash his ability from beyond-the-arc in a number of other games this year, including Purdue (Feb. 10), Indiana (Jan. 23), Nebraska (Dec. 7), and San Diego State (Dec. 4).

Caleb Houstan played for national powerhouse Montverde

Coming out of the prestigious Montverde Academy (Montverde, Florida) high school basketball program, Houstan was one of the most celebrated prospects in America. According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2021 cycle, the 6-foot-8, 205-pound small forward was rated as a five-star prospect and the No. 10 overall prospect in America. Last year in the GEICO national championship game vs. Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel-Aire, Kansas), Houstan poured in 15 points for Montverde in helping guide them to a 62-52 win. The national title for the program was the fifth for the Eagles since 2013.

The 2022 NBA Draft will take place in the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York on Thursday, June 23. It will start at 7:30 PM EST and will be nationally televised by ABC and ESPN.
