Former NFL star, ESPN analyst reveals best fit for Russell Wilson
Former Patriots star Rob Ninkovich revealed the best fit for quarterback Russell Wilson on ESPN’s Get Up Monday morning. As the star quarterback is looking to be traded from the Seattle Seahawks, Ninkovich believes the best fit would be the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I think the Pittsburgh Steelers could be a Super Bowl team,” Ninkovich stated, regarding the possibility of a Wilson trade. “You look at where they are right now — No. 1, they got a great defense. They got T.J. Watt. Defensive Player of the Year. So, that defense is solid. Then, you look at the offensive side of the ball. They have a good running game. Have some big receivers. So, if you’re able to Russell Wilson with Mike Tomlin and that culture, I think that they would have a lot of success.
“If you’re Russell Wilson, you have to also look at a lot of these other teams and think, ‘Am I going to help my career, or hurt my career?’ By going to a team that’s trying to rebuild and transition. A new head coach. Year after year of kind of just mediocrity. They’re just right in the middle, never really doing anything. And the Steelers — they need a quarterback. They’re probably a quarterback, and a little bit of offensive line help away from going deep into the playoffs.”
The Steelers have been wondering who their replacement will be for Ben Roethlisberger. If they can pull off a trade for Russell Wilson, Pittsburgh will become one of the top contenders in the entire league.

Additionally, Rob Ninkovich isn’t the lone analyst at ESPN who believes the Steelers should trade for Wilson. Earlier this month, Tim Hasselbeck stated that he thinks the quarterback would fit right in with Pittsburgh.

“I think it would be a great spot for Russell Wilson with where he is at this stage of his career, the things that he can still do extremely well and what Pittsburgh could use at the position with how they’re built,” Hasselbeck said on Get Up. “I think there is no doubt about it with that defense, with what Russell Wilson would like to accomplish – and let’s be honest, too … Russell Wilson likes to be in the spotlight. When you play for the Seattle Seahawks, you feel like you play in southern Alaska. Playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers – one of the best fan bases in all of pro football – I think would mean a lot for Russell Wilson.
“It would be a huge departure from what he’s experienced, and I think he would love it. I think there are so many factors that make Pittsburgh a perfect fit for Russell Wilson and vice-versa.”
Wilson, 33, played his 10th NFL season with the Seahawks in 2021 – throwing for 3,113 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. For his career as a whole, Wilson has tallied 37,059 yards, 292 touchdowns and 87 interceptions. He led Seattle to the Super Bowl XLVIII crown in 2013, as the Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos.
