Former Texas star Justin Tucker won NFL Moment of the Year at the NFL Honors banquet on Thursday night. He’s established himself as one of the best kickers in league history throughout his career and this year was no different. Tucker won the award for drilling a record-setting 66-yard bomb against the Detroit Lions. The kick won the game for the Baltimore Ravens, 19-17 as time expired, ripping the hearts out of the Detroit Lions’ fans at Ford Field. Not only was the kick the game-winner, it also happened to set the record for the longest kick in NFL history.

Drilling clutch kicks has become rather routine for Tucker throughout his storied NFL career. He hit 94.6 percent of his kicks during the 2021-2022 season for the Ravens–establishing a mark that puts him among the game’s elite. During his 10 seasons in the league, he’s nailed 91.1 percent of his kicks–making him the most accurate kicker in league history.

The former Longhorn has been named first team All-Pro for five of his first ten seasons in the league (2013, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021).

While at Texas, Tucker also drilled clutch kicks

While at Texas, Tucker also drilled a game-winning kick in 2011. He hit a game-winning kick in the Texas A&M-Texas game, lifting the Longhorns to a 27-25 victory. He made 83.3 percent of his field goals at Texas, putting him third best in the program’s history. While Tucker is among the best kickers in school history, he’s not the greatest to ever suit up there. Phil Dawson set 13 records during his time in Austin. He also earned first team All-America honors his junior and senior seasons.

A Texas native, Tucker also played his high school football in the state for the Westlake Chaparrals (Austin, Texas) and suited up in the 2008 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Westlake is one of the most storied high school football programs in the state’s history.
