Free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick is planning on holding an exhibition throwing event. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the event will take place during the halftime of the Michigan Wolverines spring ball game on Saturday. Kaepernick will have some draft-eligible players participate in the event, and it is believed that NFL teams will have personnel in attendance. Unlike other events between the NFL and the NCAA, NFL teams will be allowed to be in attendance, given that the participants involved are not believed to be current students.

In a tweet sent out earlier in the week, On’3 fan site, The Wolverine, revealed free agent NFL pass catchers will join the former 49ers quarterback during Saturday’s event. This report comes less than a day after Michigan football announced the polarizing activist would be involved with the attraction.

It comes as no surprise given the relationship between Kaepernick and Jim Harbaugh, who coached the budding star from 2011-2014. The duo was photographed together holding a No. 7 Michigan jersey in the official announcement Wednesday evening with the attached message: “Football Family.”

In a moment sure to inspire the young talent at Michigan, Kaepernick visited with his former coach’s team and was named an honorary captain for the Maize vs. Gold game this Saturday. Kaepernick played college ball for Nevada before being drafted by the 49ers in coach Jim Harbaugh’s first year with San Francisco. In Kaepernick’s second season, Harbaugh named him starter as the pair found immediate success with the 49ers.

Harbaugh reached the NFC Championship game in his first three seasons as head coach, including a Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl 47. Kaepernick and Harbaugh lost to Harbaugh’s brother, John Harbaugh, and the Baltimore Ravens. Unfortunately, their time together was short as Harbaugh moved on from the organization after just four seasons with the team.

Kaepernick himself was not with the 49ers much longer after exiting the NFL in 2016. A combination of injuries and a seeming ostracization for his kneeling during the National Anthem led to him and the 49ers parting ways. Since then, he hasn’t played in the NFL, following the uproar that surrounded his national anthem protests and unapologetic views on social justice. He left the 49ers after throwing for 12,271 yards and 72 touchdowns in his 69 games with San Francisco.

Kaepernick was given a special honor by Michigan while attending one of their Spring practices. Kaepernick was named honorary captain for Saturday’s Maize and Blue Spring Game. He was also presented with a Michigan Wolverines jersey featuring his name and number.
