The New York Jets added someone that many view as the top wide receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft, selecting Ohio State wideout Garrett Wilson with the No. 10 overall pick.

Following Wilson’s selection by the Jets, his father read a heartfelt message to his son, in a video that was tweeted out by the NFL.

Wilson was part of an impressive draft haul for the Jets this past weekend. New York also selected Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner with the No. 4 overall pick, and traded back into the first round to take Florida State defensive end Jermaine Johnson with the No. 26 overall pick.

In Wilson, the Jets are getting an explosive wide receiver that should make an impact right away. After bringing in 30 receptions for 432 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman in 2019, Wilson had 43 catches for 723 yards and six touchdowns in just eight games as a sophomore. This past season, he had 70 receptions for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns as part of a loaded Buckeyes receiver room.

In his collegiate career, Wilson totaled 143 receptions for 2,213 yards and 23 touchdowns, averaging 15.3 yards per catch.

Wilson should be able to make an impact with the Jets right away

Entering the offseason, the Jets have been heavily involved in the wide receiver market. The Jets were reportedly close to acquiring Tyreek Hill before he was traded to Miami, and New York was also linked to 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel over draft weekend.

Last season, rookie wideout Elijah Moore was the team’s most productive receiver with 43 receptions for 538 yards and five touchdowns, doing so in just 11 games. Corey Davis had 34 receptions for 492 yards and four touchdowns, but he was limited to just nine games.

Moore is seen as a building block and a budding star for the Jets at receiver, and pairing him with Wilson gives the team a talented wide receiver duo to build around for years to come.

Last season, the Jets went 4-13 and finished in last place in the AFC East. But after the impressive haul over draft weekend, the Jets hope to take another step towards contention this season.
