Georgia's Ryland Zaborowski earns SEC player of the week honors

Georgia infielder Ryland Zaborowski, who has earned the nickname ‘Zabo’, has begun to add to his accolades in his first season at Georgia. The Miami (Ohio) transfer is this week’s Co-Player of the Week in the SEC. Arkansas’ Wehiwa Aloy shared the award with Zaborowski.
Zaborowski had a dominant week. In just the weekend series against Columbia alone, he hit .438, with six home runs and drove in 18 runs.
Zaborowski is second in the nation with 10 home runs in 16 games. He has a team-leading .447 batting average. Georgia head coach Wes Johnson has had high praise for Zaborowski so far this spring.

“If you come and watch his pregame BP (batting practice), it’s something,” Georgia head coach Wes Johnson told reporters after Friday’s game. “I was fortunate enough to be with Luis Arraez who won two batting titles when I was with the Minnesota Twins. Luis just sprays the ball around during BP, and Ryland is taking that approach. He doesn’t come to BP trying to hit it over the lights. He’s going to work it up the middle, hit some power ground balls, and I think that helps him in the game.”
The Bulldogs will put their 15-game winning streak on the line tomorrow against 12-3 East Tennessee State at Foley Field. SEC play begins on Friday and runs through Sunday with three games against Kentucky.
First pitch for Tuesday’s game will be 3 p.m. at Foley Field in Athens.
