Grad transfer Jaylan Gainey recaps Florida State visit
Jaylan Gainey was a highly sought-after grad transfer when he entered the portal. The 6-foot-9 center is the two-time defending Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year. His 124 career blocks in only 65 games are third on Brown’s all-time list.
Programs like Duke, Arkansas, Florida State, Virginia, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Marquette, Penn State, Arkansas, BYU, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Ole Miss, Butler, Creighton, etc., have reached out to Gainey. Gainey has taken his time throughout the transfer process. Those close to the situation feel Florida State, Ole Miss, and Marquette are the three schools toward the top of his list.
Gainey visited Florida State this past weekend. On3 caught up with Gainey to talk about his official visit to Tallahassee.
On3: Overall, how would you say your visit went?
Gainey: My visit was great. They really treated me like family.
On3: What was their pitch to you?
Gainey: They showed me I could be a big part of their offense and defense because my playstyle fits and translates to their entire system.

On3: What was your favorite part of the visit?
Gainey: My favorite part of the visit had to be driving to the stadium when I first landed. They had music playing and showed me an entire presentation on the jumbotron.
Going into his Florida State visit, Jaylan Gainey had future visits set with Ole Miss and Marquette. We will see if those happen after this weekend, as On3 expects a decision to come early this week.
