Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers cited a 12-day cleanse as the source of his Instagram post about gratitude late Monday night. It turns out it was a Panchakarma cleanse, and people took to Twitter to break down what that means.

Warning: The Panchakarma cleanse isn’t for those with weak stomachs.

Rodgers spoke about the cleanse on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday and said it helped him not only physically, but mentally. He decided to write up the Instagram post after meditating as he contemplates what’s next for him in the NFL.

“I just came out of a 12-day cleanse where you’re eating a specific diet and you’re going through these treatments every day and you’re not really doing anything else,” Rodgers said. “You’ve got to kind of turn everything else off. You’re not working out, you’re not straining or anything. It’s kind of a re-centering, and it not only heals you physically, but I think it takes away mental stress.

“And then the spiritual part, I think it allows you to kind of enjoy the meditations a little bit more. So when I come out, my first thought is just intense gratitude for the people in my life. And that’s not every person in my life that I mentioned, and there’s other people to highlight in the credit. But that was just where I was at.”

What is a Panchakarma cleanse?

There are five steps to a Panchakarma cleanse. One is “Vamana,” which is basically therapeutic vomiting for a day. Another is “Virechan,” also known as a day of laxative therapy.

It also involves enema therapy and herb drops in the nose. Finally, there’s a blood cleansing, in addition to dieting (including ghee butter) yoga and meditation — which is where the Instagram post came in. All told, it takes 12 days, as Rodgers said.

Aaron Rodgers updates where he is in offseason decision process

More than 130,000 people tuned into The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday to hear Aaron Rodgers speak about his future. They heard him say two sentences they probably didn’t expect.

“There will be no news today,” he said. “No decision on my future.”

Rodgers’ appearance came on the heels of a cryptic Instagram post late Monday night in which he spoke about gratitude and thanked teammates and his ex-fianceé, among others. That fueled speculation about what he might do with a conversation with McAfee looming. But he said it was just him expressing gratitude for everything in his life — nothing more.
