Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was the talk of the internet on Tuesday after he posted a late-night Instagram post about gratitude. In an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, he shared the meaning behind it — and it’s not what you might think.

Rodgers’ post featured 10 pictures, including one that said, “Gratitude is the wine for the soul. Go on. Get drunk.” He also thanked everyone from current teammates to his ex-fianceé. Add in the pictures — including one of Davante Adams and Randall Cobb — and there was reason to believe there was a deeper meaning behind the post.

He cleared the air with McAfee.

“Unless you’ve gone through certain experiences and had frustration and been near the bottom, then getting near the top and understand the beauty in life, then you might say things about that [like], ‘That’s a cryptic message,'” Rodgers said. “There’s nothing cryptic about gratitude. “I just came out of a 12-day cleanse where you’re eating a specific diet and you’re going through these treatments every day and you’re not really doing anything else. You’ve got to kind of turn everything else off. You’re not working out, you’re not straining or anything.

“It’s kind of a re-centering, and it not only heals you physically, but I think it takes away mental stress. And then the spiritual part, I think it allows you to kind of enjoy the meditations a little bit more. So when I come out, my first thought is just intense gratitude for the people in my life. And that’s not every person in my life that I mentioned, and there’s other people to highlight in the credit.

“But that was just where I was at. I was going through some old pictures from the last year and I felt an intense amount of gratitude for the life that I have and for the lessons that I’ve learned and the growth that’s happened over the last year and the people who’ve been a part of that journey.”

Aaron Rodgers: ‘There will be no news today’

More than 130,000 people tuned into The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday to hear Aaron Rodgers speak about his future. They heard him say two sentences they probably didn’t expect.

“There will be no news today,” he said. “No decision on my future.”

Rodgers won his second straight MVP award this season and his fourth of his career. He helped lead the Packers to a 13-4 record this year to pick up the NFC’s No. 1 seed. Green Bay fell to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round.
