Aaron Rodgers wins second straight NFL MVP award

He did it again. Aaron Rodgers is the NFL MVP.

The NFL announced the honor Thursday night ahead of this weekend’s Super Bowl LVI matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams. Rodgers won the award after another spectacular season for the Green Bay Packers and now has four MVPs to his name during his 16-year career.

This past season, Rodgers threw for 4,115 yards and ranked third in the NFL with a 68.9% completion percentage. He also had threw for a league-low four interceptions and 37 touchdowns — giving him one of the best touchdown-to-interception ratios of the year.

Despite back-to-back MVP awards, Rodgers’ future in Green Bay remains in doubt as he weighs his options. Prior to this season, even after winning his third MVP award, Rodgers didn’t report to training camp on time and questions remained as to whether or not he’d suit up for the Packers. He did, and now fans wait to see what he decides to do for the 2022 season.

Green Bay went 13-4 this season to secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Packers played the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round and lost on a buzzer-beating field goal by Robbie Gould.

Big decisions loom for the Packers this season. They could not only lose Rodgers, but also star wide receiver Davante Adams, who’s entering free agency. Green Bay could use the franchise tag on Adams, but it’s unclear what direction the Packers will go.

With the big decision looming, Rodgers spoke with ESPN.com’s Rob Demovsky about what could lie ahead for him and the Packers. He pointed specifically to what happens with Adams, who became Rodgers’ No. 1 target, and the process that goes into the decision.

“I’d like to be respectful of the organization,” Rodgers told Demovsky. “One decision that will be upcoming will be obviously Davante and his future with the team. There still is this thing called a franchise tag, which I don’t think ’17’ wants the franchise.

“I think that should be enough time to make a decision by then. I don’t want to put myself on a specific date, but I do want to be sensitive to Davante and many other guys who have decisions to make on their own futures. To drag it out past free agency would be disrespectful to the organization and to those guys, and that 100 percent will not happen.”
