Green Bay Packers announce three practice squad signings

Now that the initial 53-man roster is set, the Green Bay Packers are adding to the practice squad. The Packers announced three signings to the group Thursday afternoon.

Green Bay is signing tight end Shaun Beyer, cornerback Benjie Franklin and wide receiver Juwann Winfree to the group. Winfree was part of the Packers’ initial round of roster cuts, but cleared waivers and will now join the practice squad.

During the preseason, Winfree appeared in all three games, totaling seven receptions for 75 yards. He started his career with the Denver Broncos in 2019 as a sixth-round pick out of Colorado, but spent the last two years with Green Bay.

Beyer, an Iowa product, originally signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent and spent the year on the practice squad. The Minnesota Vikings picked him up off after his release and worked with them through training camp before landing with the Packers.

A rookie out of Tarleton State, Franklin signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on May 5 before his release Aug. 29.

Report: Green Bay Packers add quality secondary depth with safety Rudy Ford

After getting down to the NFL’s 53-man limit on Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers are signing veteran safety Rudy Ford, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

The former Auburn Tigers defensive back lost his job with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday after receiving his release but is now back on his feet with a new squad.

A sixth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Ford spent his first two seasons in the league with the Arizona Cardinals. He then joined the Philadelphia Eagles for two seasons before playing for the Jaguars in 2021.

Over the course of five seasons and 56 games played, Ford has totaled 88 tackles with 67 solo, a half sack and one interception. His first career interception came in November in the team’s 9-6 win over Buffalo.
