Green Bay Packers claim tight end Eli Wolf off waivers on Wednesday

On Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers claimed a former SEC tight end off of waivers. According to the NFL’s waiver wire report, the Packers claimed former Georgia Bulldogs tight end, Eli Wolf.

Wolf went undrafted in the 2020 NFL draft. Although he finished his career as a Bulldog, he started off as a member of one of Georgia’s most prominent rival’s roster, the Tennessee Volunteers. Wolf made it on the Volunteers roster as a walk-on after de-committing from Eastern Michigan University. With the Volunteers, the six-foot-four tight end from Minister, OH, only had a total of eight catches for 86 yards and one touchdown over three years. And in his lone season at Georgia, he had a total of 13 receptions for 194 yards and a touchdown.

As for his NFL career, Wolf spent the majority of that time as a member of the Baltimore Ravens after signing with them as an undrafted rookie free agent. He spent all of 2020 in Baltimore but was cut during the preseason of the 2021 campaign. Midway through the year, Wolf would sign with the Indianapolis Colts, becoming a member of their practice squad.

The Packers also announced on Wednesday that they have cut wide receiver, Chris Blair. Blair spent the 2021 campaign as a member of Green Bay’s practice squad. The Packers initially cut the former Alcorn State Braves wide receiver early in January before resigning with them after the playoffs.

Packers Enagbare explains how he was given nickname JJ

In the 2022 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers went heavy on linebackers and defensive linemen. They ended their draft using four picks at those positions. One of those four selections was former South Carolina Gamecocks linebacker Kingsley Enagbare. The Packers selected Enagbare in the fifth round with overall pick No.179.

Last week Green Bay held a brief conference to introduce all of their new rookies ahead of rookie minicamp. And one of the questions Enagbare answered was about his nickname JJ. With the letter J absent from his name, one reporter was curious about how he got the nickname. They also wanted to know what his preferred name could be called.

“Preference? There’s really no preference. You can go Kingsley, Kingsley I guess is fine,” said Enagbare. “…It was a little cartoon show JJ The Jet Plane that I used to watch when I was a little kid. And it just kinda just stuck with me.”

Enagbare, a former On3 Consensus four-star recruit coming out of the Class of 2018, put together a successful collegiate career for the Gamecocks – totaling 121 tackles over four seasons with the program. He had a strong season in 2021, as he made 44 tackles to go along with 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
