After spending the first part of his young NFL career going against one of the best receivers in the game, former Packers receiver Davante Adams, corner Jaire Alexander knows what it takes to compete at the highest level on the outside. And recently, Green Bay’s star cornerback revealed that he was going to get the Packers young receivers up to speed by not taking it easy on them in practice.

“I played against the best receiver in the league, Davante Adams, all four years I’ve been here,” Alexander said, via the team’s website. “I’m going to make it as hard as I can for those guys because I know on Sunday it’s going to pay off. Iron sharpens iron. However I can help to make them better, I’m going to do that.”

In what was an iron sharpens iron scenario, Adams going up against Alexander every year in OTAs, and the preseason has catapulted both to the elite level of their respective positions. And this offseason, both were rewarded with big contract extensions. However, their time of going head-to-head against one another in practice is over, as Adams is now a member of the Las Vegas Raiders after the Packers granted his trade wishes in March. And now, with Adams gone, Alexander plans on continuing the cornerback wide receiver battles, but against the young core of receivers the Packers brought in via the NFL draft.

Green Bay selected three wide receivers in the 2022 NFL Draft: Christian Watson in the second round, Romeo Doubs in the fourth round, and Samori Toure in the seventh round. If these three young receivers want to understand and experience what it will be like going against an elite corner in the NFL, Alexander is happy to oblige them this offseason and for years to come.
