Davante Adams reveals details on relationship with Aaron Rodgers following Raiders trade

Davante Adams has no ill will toward former teammate Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers following his departure to Las Vegas this offseason. In fact, the two stayed in regular contact with each other during the entire process.

“Oh, yeah. We’ve talked multiple times,” Adams said of Rodgers. “We talked throughout the process, too and I was aware of where he stood [with his decision]. We had talks just like what he said the other day. He mentioned we had talks about his future and what he thinks his duration in Green Bay or just football would look like, and that played into my decision as well.”

Adams signed a long term deal with the Raiders, locking him in for four years in a stacked AFC West division featuring the Chiefs, Chargers and the new-look Denver Broncos.

The former Packers star chalked the move up to simply not being comfortable playing for a franchise that might not be contenders in a few years, and Adams believed staying in Green Bay could be detrimental to his career long-term

“Because where I am in my career – and this isn’t a shot at anybody, any other quarterbacks in Green Bay. I love Jordan Love especially, he’s a great guy – I got aspirations of doing really, really big things and being remembered,” Adams said. “It just wasn’t really a point in my career that I was willing to sacrifice Aaron not being there after a year or two.”

Ultimately, Rodgers and Adams respect one another’s decisions, citing the move being about more than just football. Adams said Rodgers knew he was only looking out for his family and being closer to his hometown of Palo Alto, California.

“He understands where I’m coming from, I understood where he was coming from, so we kind of just left it at that,” Adams said.
