Report: Green Bay Packers finalizing record-breaking extension with star cornerback Jaire Alexander
The Packers and Jaire Alexander are extending their relationship. The star cornerback showed he’s one of the best pass defenders in the league since coming into the NFL, and Green Bay is rewarding him for his efforts.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the former Louisville star is finalizing a monstrous contract extension with the historic franchise.
“Packers and Pro-Bowl CB Jaire Alexander are finalizing a 4-year, $84 million contract extension, per source,” tweeted Schefter. “Deal includes $31 million in 2022 – a DB record of $30 million in signing bonus. Alexander will receive $42.5M by March. @JohnThornton of @RocNationSports confirmed deal.”
Continuing, Schefter put the terms of the deal into perspective, revealing the Packers identified Alexander as one of their core, future stars. They’re showing him that with the financials, as Alexander’s new deal sets a new high mark for defensive backs.
“Jaire Alexander’s new deal averages $21 million per year, a new mark for DBs,” tweeted Schefter. “It ties him to Green Bay through 2026 season. Alexader broke a bone in his shoulder in week four last year, and played only eight plays in playoffs. Packers still identified him as a core young player.”

Last season, Alexander spent several weeks this season on the reserve list with an AC joint injury in his shoulder. Rather than undergoing surgery, he opted to rehab and attempt a comeback ahead of the playoffs. The 2020 Pro Bowl selection returned to practice from his Week Four injury on Dec. 8.
In his first four seasons, Alexander has played in 48 games for the Packers. He’s recorded 188 tackles, five interceptions with 44 pass deflections. Over the first four games of 2021, he grabbed one interception with three pass deflections and 13 tackles. He didn’t record any stats after his return for the postseason.
Still, the Packers believe Jaire Alexander will be anchoring their secondary for the foreseeable future. As long as he’s healthy, it looks like a safe bet the former Louisville star will be his usual lock-down self over the remainder of his time in Green Bay.
