Green Bay Packers place CB Eric Stokes on injured reserve
The Green Bay Packers have moved cornerback Eric Stokes to the injured reserve, the franchise announced on Saturday. Earlier in the week, head coach Matt LaFleur intimated that such a move with in the offing.
Correspondingly, the Packers have signed Corey Ballentine to the active roster to play in place of Stokes. The franchise has also elevated kicker Ramiz Ahmed and linebacker La’Darius Hamilton from the practice squad to the active roster for game day.
Stokes is a second-year cornerback out of Georgia. He appeared in all of Green Bay’s games until his injury against the Detroit Lions last week.
The Packers host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. EST at Lambeau Field.
LaFleur said on Friday that Stokes would likely miss the rest of the year
LaFleur had some bad news for an already suffering defense as he announced that Stokes is most likely going to miss the rest of the season. Stokes hurt his ankle and knee in the Packers loss to the Lions.
On Friday LaFleur told reporters during a press conference that while he doesn’t have a firm answer, the outlook is grim for the second-year cornerback.

“It’s looking unlikely but I don’t have an exact update for that,” LaFleur said of Stokes playing again this season.
Stokes played in the Packers nine games to date and has 26 tackles. He was on the field for more than 90% of defensive snaps for Green Bay until he went out against the Lions.
His injury is just the latest in a what’s become a laundry list for the Packers. Along with Stokes, edge rusher Rashan Gary is on injured reserve. And out on Sunday are linebacker De’Vondre Campbell and cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles. And that’s just the defensive side of the ball — the Packers are dealing with a bevy of offensive injuries, too.
