Green Bay Packers select Penn State offensive lineman Rasheed Walker in 2022 NFL Draft

After opting to leave Penn State with eligibility still on the table, it all paid off for offensive tackle Rasheed Walker. The Green Bay Packers drafted Walker with the No. 249 overall pick in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Walker mysteriously opted not to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine or Pro Day testing but found a solid fit with Green Bay anyway. The 6-foot-6, 304-pound lineman could play tackle or guard at the next level.

Walker was a three-year starter for the Nittany Lions, earning third-team All-Big Ten honors as a redshirt sophomore. A native of Waldorf, Maryland, he was the No. 6 offensive tackle in the country in the 2019 class, according to On3 Consensus. Coming out of high school, he chose Penn State over Ohio State, Maryland and two dozen other offers.

He was a part of the offensive line that paved the way for quarterback Sean Clifford to pass for 3,107 yards and 21 touchdowns this season. Penn State ranked fourth in the Big Ten in passing offense behind Ohio State, Purdue and Maryland.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein broke down what Walker can bring to the NFL in his recent scout of the lineman’s draft profile.

The prospect analyst credited the Penn State lineman for his power but questioned his pass protection as a tackle at the NFL level.

“Walker possesses enticing power and measurables but has issues that could be challenging to correct if he stays at tackle,” Zierlein wrote. “Ohio State defenders were able to burn up his outside edge, which creates concern about his pass pro range, but it can be hard to beat his anchor with pure power. He has issues playing beyond his base, creating chronic over-extension that will be exploited by skilled NFL rush talent. He’s capable as a run blocker and should keep getting better with more hand work. Walker projects as a right tackle on the next level but might move inside to guard if his range and balance in pass sets aren’t up to par.”
