Green Bay Packers take Miami defensive tackle Jonathan Ford with pick No. 234
The Green Bay Packers have used their No. 234 pick in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft to take Miami defensive tackle Jonathan Ford. He is the second selection of the seventh round, following Georgia Tech safety Tariq Carpenter.
Ford totaled 14 tackles this past season with the Hurricanes across eight games. He has been a starter each of the past two seasons.
Late-round picks are often glanced over and disregarded for the headline picks of the first and second rounds of the draft. But given green bay’s history, those picks have turned into pro bowl offensive linemen David Bakhtiari, Corey Lindsey, and running back Aaron Jones.
The Super Bowl window is closing for the Green Bay Packers and MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Which is why this draft is one of the most critical drafts in recent Packers history. Green Bay finished last season just shy of the NFC championship game after falling to the San Francisco 49ers at home 13-10. Since then, the Packers have had to make some tough choices this offseason, including trading away all-pro wide receiver Davante Adams. Green Bay had a few holes to plug up heading into this draft. Only time will tell if Brian Gutekunst worked his draft magic again, helping the Packers finally get over the playoff hump, or whether it’ll be another early exit next season.

Day three draft picks are hit and miss. At this juncture in the draft, an overreach can be just as impactful as in the earlier rounds. However, the perfect pick here could catapult your team into the Super bowl. With the Packers taking Romeo Doubs and Zach Tom in the fourth round, only time will tell whether he will be a quality pick like offensive lineman Royce Newman. Or quickly phase out of the Packers’ future plans like wide receiver J’Mon Moore.
Now that the NFL draft is drawing to a close, the Packers’ plans for the 2022 season are starting to become clearer. Hopefully the Packers have a successful mini camp and training camp series with little to no injuries so they can continue their dominance as kings of the NFC north.
