2024 Five-Star Ian Jackson expected to commit Monday
Ian Jackson, one of the top-ranked players in the class of 2024, is expected to announce his college decision on Monday, January 16th.
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of the Bronx (NY) Cardinal Hayes has taken official visits to Kentucky, North Carolina, LSU, Arkansas and Oregon. He also received offers from UConn, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Kansas, UCLA, Syracuse, and others.
Jackson ranks as the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Consensus — the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies.
Jackson talks schools
In previous interviews with On3, Jackson discussed several of the schools involved in his recruitment.
Kentucky: “Putting me in that system, I’ll be great,” Jackson said to KSR. “The way they get after it on defense is just great. And just Cal, Coach Cal, an NBA legendary coach. I can learn a lot from him and there’s a lot of things he can teach me to get where I want to go.”
“It was crazy,” Jackson said in regard to being offered a scholarship from Kentucky. “It felt like a dream come true. Being on the phone with Coach Cal and him saying those words: ‘We’d like to offer you a scholarship,’ it was definitely something I dreamed about and had to been waiting to hear for a while.”

North Carolina: “(Hubert Davis) is a cool guy. He played in New York (Knicks) so we kind of have a familiarity, with each from both being in New York so we connect like that.”
“Just watching that team as I grew up, being a fan of Michael Jordan, and just knowing the history of the school and everything that comes with it, it’s very big for me.”
Oregon: “Coach Chuck (Martin) is from the Bronx, and he knows what New York guards bring. He wants me to come out there and get the championship with his program.”
Scouting Summary
“Ian Jackson is a high-level athlete,” On3’s Jamie Shaw writes. “He has long arms, broad shoulders, and explosive athleticism in the paint. Jackson has confidence with the ball in his hands and is decisive in getting downhill to the rim. He can rise up and finish above the rim, and pull up in the mid-range with an assortment of floaters and pull-ups. Jackson is a capable shooter from three, but he still needs polish with this part of his game. His shot selection can get a little wild at times. He is comfortable on the ball, but would like to see him see the floor better. He has natural athletic tools and the utmost confidence. Jackson can be a high-level defender who gives great effort.”
