Indianapolis Colts defensive end Kwity Paye was carted off the field in the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s game against the Denver Broncos. He suffered a leg injury on the play, according to The Athletic’s James Boyd.

Paye suffered the injury while trying to sack Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson. He immediately grabbed his leg and ended up getting heading to the locker room via a cart.

The Colts drafted Paye No. 21 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Michigan and he started 15 games for Indianapolis last season. He totaled 32 tackles and 4.0 sacks a year ago and was on pace to have an even bigger year this season. Through four starts, he had 16 tackles and 3.0 sacks entering Thursday night’s tilt against Denver.

Paye earned All-Rookie Team honors last season after a standout career at Michigan. He was a two-time second team All-Big Ten selection and led the Wolverines with 12.5 tackles for loss to go with 6.5 sacks in 2019.

Indianapolis and Denver squared off Thursday night in a game marred by stagnant offenses. Neither team had a touchdown heading into the fourth quarter as both teams scored all their points via field goals through most of the game.

The Colts are trying to bounce back from a slow start to the season, going 1-2-1 in their first four games. They’re doing so without running back Jonathan Taylor, who missed the Thursday Night Football showdown with an ankle injury he suffered last week against the Tennessee Titans.

Denver, meanwhile, is also trying to right the ship with Wilson at quarterback and new coach Nathaniel Hackett at the helm. The Broncos took a 2-2 record into Thursday night’s game, but averaged 14.5 points per contest coming in.
