Insider makes bold Caleb Williams NFL Draft claim
Caleb Williams has been a star over his first two college campaigns. Whether in Norman, Oklahoma or Los Angeles, California, his talent has been evident from the start within Lincoln Riley’s system. With a Heisman Trophy now on his resume, people are even more excited about his potential at the next level. Per an insider for FOX Sports, NFL teams truly can’t wait to get their hands on him.
Peter Schrager joined FOX NFL Sunday and Curt Menefee asked him about Williams. Schrager went as far to say that Williams won’t just be the top quarterback taken next year. He said he’d be the top pick this year as well as the top pick in the last draft too.
“They are but he’s not eligible for the draft this year. So I did my research,” said Schrager. “I’m texting everybody (and said) this guy is so good (that) he’d be the top quarterback in this year’s draft, he’d have been the top quarterback in last year’s draft. He’s not going to be in the College Football Playoff. But we’ll see him next college season with Lincoln Riley and the Trojans.”
Williams put up 1,912 yards and 21 touchdowns on a 64.5% completion rate in his 11 games as a Sooner. He then transferred to USC this offseason and became Riley’s third Heisman winner. Williams did so with 4,075 passing yards and 37 touchdowns through the air on an improved 66.1% completion percentage.

Schrager’s statement is a bold one. It’s not too far of a stretch to say teams would take him above names like Kenny Pickett or Malik Willis in the 2022 draft. However, saying he’d be selected over CJ Stroud, Bryce Young, or Will Levis in the stacked 2023 quarterback class would be quite the debate.
Still, with Williams only being a sophomore, he was one more year until NFL teams can select him. With what he has put on film so far, there’s no doubt he will be a top nearly every mock draft and big board heading into next season and the 2024 NFL Draft.
