Navon Shabazz, a three-star combo guard in the 2026 class, has committed to Iowa and head coach Fran McCaffery, he told On3.

The 6-foot-4 combo guard out of Iowa United Prep in Des Moines chose the Hawkeyes over offers from Iowa State, Wake Forest, and others.

Shabazz is unranked nationally, but is regarded as the best class of 2026 prospect in the state of Iowa, according to Tom Kakert.

Shabazz on his commitment to Iowa

Navon Shabazz discussed his decision to choose the Hawkeyes with On3.

Why Iowa?

“Because it’s close to home and I grew up around a lot of Hawkeye fans,” he said.

What led to him trusting coach McCaffery and the staff?

“Just them staying consistent throughout the process and checking in regularly.”

In his own words, what type of player is Iowa getting in Navon Shabazz?

“I would describe myself as a two way, three-level scorer that can play make.”

He has a message for Iowa fans.

“A message I have for the fans is that I’ll able to contribute into a deeper tournament run.”
