Jamaal Williams says Packers are "like that ex-girlfriend"
Breaking up is hard to do, just ask Jamaal Williams, who says the Packers are like an ex-girlfriend. A fourth-round pick in 2017, the former BYU running back spent his first four NFL seasons in Green Bay.
But sometimes, it’s best to move on. Not every relationship lasts forever, and Williams and the Packers went through a breakup this offseason. Now on division rival Detroit, the running back has something to prove when he faces his old team Monday night.
“Like that ex-girlfriend, shoot, I got to go,” Williams said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “But I got a rebound, it was the Lions, they picked me up. Now they feeding me good, taking me to dinners. Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
Williams was often used as a change-of-pace back in Green Bay, where he backed up Aaron Jones. He finished with 505 yards rushing to go with 31 catches and 236 yards receiving this past season.
He teams up with fellow pass catching back D’Andre Swift on the Lions. The two finished with a combined 16 catches for 121 yards and a touchdown in Week 1.

Both Green Bay and Detroit are coming off of losses in the opening week. The Packers looked nothing like themselves in a 38-3 blowout against the New Orleans Saints. Is it possible they’re missing Williams? The running game was a major concern in the loss, averaging a meager 2.9 yards per carry.
Detroit was down 38-17 to San Francisco entering the fourth quarter. Although the 41-33 final score suggests a close game, it was anything but. Newly acquired quarterback Jared Goff threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns, but ultimately the defense will have to play better.
Last year’s MVP, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, is looking to make up for his poor performance against the Saints. He threw two interceptions and no touchdowns, marking the first time he threw multiple interceptions since 2017.
Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET at Lambeau Field. Can the Lions help Jamaal Williams get revenge on the team he likens to an ex-girlfriend? Emotions will certainly be high.
