Heading into Tuesday night’s NBA Draft lottery, the top three picks were already certain. Paolo BancheroChet Holmgren and Jabari Smith in any order, will be the first three taken off the board. The only questions, in which order will they be selected and to which teams. ESPN’s Jay Bilas broke down each player and who he believes should be drafted and where.

“You’ve got Jabari Smith, who is an elite jump shooter at 6-foot-10, can knock it down off the dribble, off the catch and … Chet Holmgren, there’s not another player like him. His ability to shoot it from three, he can handle it,” Bilas said. “He’s an excellent passer with a great feel, and he’s tough and competitive.

“Banchero is the most powerful at 6-foot-10 and 255. Great spin move, he can shoot it; I think he’s got to improve his 3-point shooting , he he shot about 33%, but he’s got a ton of offensive talent.”

With the draft order set, the Orlando Magic hold the No. 1 overall selection, while they’re following up by the Oklahoma City Thunder at No. 2 and then the Houston Rockets at No. 3.

If Bilas’ predictions were to be true, Auburn‘s Smith should hear his name called first. After all, he earned National Freshman of the Year and consensus All-American honors while averaging 16.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game for the Tigers while shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 42 percent from 3-point range.

“Orlando controls the draft at No. 1, but Oklahoma City came out a huge winner because they get Jabari Smith at two if Holmgren goes to Orlando and then they’ve got the 12 Pick, which is going to be the quality player.

But you can’t go wrong with any of the three prospects. Holmgren dominated the West Coast Conference last season, leading Gonzaga to a 28-4 record while averaging 14.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. Additionally, he helped lead the Bulldogs to a tremendous season as the No. 1 overall seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, prior to falling to Arkansas in the Sweet 16.

Banchero, on the other hand, averaged 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists, also adding 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks for Duke during his freshman season.. He did so on 47.8 precent shooting from the field, while only hitting the aforementioned 33.8 percent from the beyond the arc.

All three are expected to be game-changing talent for whichever team winds up selecting them, which remains the only question left regarding draft status. With teams’ selections set (barring trades), it now comes down to team needs as to which order the trio are taken off the board.
