The Dallas Cowboys feel as though they’re ever so slightly in no man’s land. After yet another 12-5 season and again not making the NFC Championship, Dallas both made some changes while also retaining a decent percentage of their free agents. Still, some think the Cowboys need some more oomph, including Joel Klatt at FOX Sports.

In Klatt’s mind, the franchise’s top priority should be finding a way to unlock the best version of Dak Prescott again. In order to do that, one of his favorite avenues of accomplishing it is Dallas finding a way to select a star running back in the NFL Draft, specifically the one that just finished playing three seasons of college football at Texas.

“How do you return Dak to form without an offensive line that can just be leaned on in the running game? Well, give him more offensive threats,” explained Klatt on his podcast. “Who’s a better offensive threat in the state of Texas than Bijan Robinson?”

Bijan to the Cowboys. I love this selection, right? Bijan Robinson is probably going to slide from where he should get drafted. But he’s one of the five best football players in the draft,” Klatt continued. “If, for whatever reason, the Cowboys got him at No. 26? Maybe that’s just way too big of a slide. You might be thinking to yourself that’s crazy. Well, guess what? Jerry Jones might just trade up and get this guy and I don’t think that that’s out of the question.”

The Cowboy’s backfield could use an injection of energy like the one Robinson could provide. With Elliott released and Tony Pollard coming off injury under the franchise tag, there’s more than enough space in their running back room for a prospect like him if that’s the direction Jones and the team wants to go in.

All in all, Klatt believes selecting Robinson will give Dallas everything they need. For one, they could make the in-state star a face of their franchise. Secondly, he’d be a cheap option they could rack up a ton of production with on offense. Finally, he sees it as the perfect pick to get Dak back to being Dak again.

“They have to give Dak Prescott the ability to return to what his best form was. His best form was when Ezekiel Elliott was the best player in the league, the best running back in the league. They had that ability when he was on his first contract, not his second contract,” said Klatt. “You need cheap offensive weapons and this guy gives you all sorts of creativity.”

“He’s electric and I think that he can help the offense,” Klatt said. “He can help them run the football, he can help them in the passing game. That’s exactly what they need to give Dak Prescott.”
