Former Texas golfer Jordan Spieth shared what simple advice his wife gave him prior to the final round of his RBC Heritage victory on Sunday. Spieth finished the third round with a disastrous 18th hole as he missed a “simple” putt from over a foot away out of frustration, potentially costing him a chance at the win.

Spieth recovered in the final round and won the event in a playoff, and shared the rare golf advice his wife gave him the night before his victory.

Jordan Spieth on his wife’s advice

“Jordan Spieth said that his wife Annie never comments on his golf,” said Golf Magazine‘s Dylan Dethier. “Until she gave him some advice last night: ‘You need to take five seconds, if you miss a putt, before you hit your tap-in.'”

“So I thought about that today,” Spieth said after winning the RBC Heritage event.

Sometimes, even professional athletes need a reminder to breathe apparently — as Spieth’s wife said what most of the golfing world was thinking after his third-round finish. On Saturday he was sitting at nine-under par when he missed the putt that would have been a formality normally. Spieth visibly hurried through the putting motion after he missed the prior six-foot putt, and his frustration got the better of him.

Luckily the weekend ended on a happier note, and according to Spieth his wife deserves some of the credit.

Spieth makes it back-to-back wins for Longhorns

Jordan Spieth made it back to back weeks with Longhorns as winners on the PGA Tour, when he topped Patrick Cantlay in a playoff to take home the RBC Heritage at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Spieth follows up fellow Texas-Ex Scottie Scheffler after his win at The Masters last week. The win is his 13th career victory on tour and first during the 2021-22 PGA Tour season, as On3’s Joe Cook detailed.

He moves up to No. 11 in the FedEx Cup standings.

The win is his first as a father, and his wife Annie and son Sammy appeared with him on the No. 18 green during the trophy presentation.
