Josh Leonard debuted at No. 5 in the recent 2027 On3 top 50 ranking. The 6-foot-6 wing jumped on the national scene after earning All-Conference honors as an eighth grader for his Florence (SC) Wilson High team. Through two varsity seasons he has averaged 11.5 points while shooting 52.1 percent from the field.

“I’m a pass-first wing who can score, rebound, and defend on a high level,” Leonard told On3. “I feel like the best parts of my game are my rebounding at my position and my passing. I watch a lot of guys like Scottie Barnes and some of LeBron James. How they get to their spots, they rebound and pass, and how LeBron is just so dominant.”

On3 caught up with Josh Leonard after a recent live viewing to discuss the latest with his recruitment.

“Right now, I have offers from Clemson, Clemson, Cal, Jacksonville, College of Charleston, and Nicholls State,” Leonard said. “I’ve been on campus at South Carolina, that’s my only unofficial so far. Clemson and South Carolina are my two most recent offers.”

Josh Leonard talks recruitment

SOUTH CAROLINA: “My visit was a great experience. The coaches were really good to me. They’re a very welcoming program, it’s like a family over there. The second you get onto campus, they treat you like one of their own. I had a great time. As a basketball program, they’re well disciplined and their best players are all from South Carolina.”

CLEMSON: “They play a lot through their bigs. They are more of a slow-paced team that gets up the court. Coach (Brad) Brownell and their assistants have all been good so far. They can’t contact me directly and I haven’t been on a visit yet, but when they offered me and when we have talked so far they have just welcomed me with open arms.”

“Being in the class of 2027, we haven’t really heard from many schools yet,” Leonard said.

In his words

“I want to go to a school that is disciplined, but also lets their guys play freely,” Leonard said. “I’d like to go into a situation or a program that is like a brotherhood, everyone on the team playing for each other. And a place that I know will develop me for the next level.”
