Kadarius Toney not expected to be suspended after throwing punch

New York Giants rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney was ejected on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys for throwing a punch. After hauling in a 13-yard reception, Cowboys defender Damontae Kazee threw Toney to the ground after the whistle. Giants tight end Evan Engram came to the defense of Toney, and Toney eventually threw a punch and was disqualified from the game.

Toney is not expected to be suspended for his actions, per Around The NFL’s Kevin Patra. The NFL is expected to look into a potential fine.

After the game, Giants head coach Joe Judge said that he and the team do not condone Toney’s actions.

“Look, there’s a pretty distinct line in terms of competing and doing the things we’re not going to condone as a team that put us behind,” Judge said. “That’s not going to be accepted. It’s not going to be condoned. That’s as far as I’m going to go with that. Obviously, it resulted in him leaving the game and I’m just going to leave it at that right now.”

Toney had a career day as injuries piled up for the Giants

Coming into Sunday’s game, wide receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton were both out as both wideouts are dealing with hamstring issues. Then, receiver Kenny Golladay left the game with a knee injury. Additionally, quarterback Daniel Jones left with a concussion and star running back Saquon Barkley was carted off with an ankle injury.

With nearly every established playmaker injured on Sunday, the Giants were in need of somebody to step up and that is exactly what Toney did. In the 44-20 loss, Toney caught 10 of his 13 targets for 189 yards. He also had one rush for seven yards.

After his big performance, Toney now leads the Giants with 20 receptions and is second on the team with 281 receiving yards, only trailing Kenny Golladay who has 282.

The Giants selected Toney with the 20th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Florida. Through his four years with the Gators, Toney caught 120 passes for 1,590 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had 66 rushes for 580 yards and two touchdowns. With the Giants dealing with many injuries, Toney’s breakout game against Dallas could prove to be important for the young wideout in the coming weeks.

The Giants are in last place in the NFC East division with a 1-4 record. New York faces the Rams, Panthers, Chiefs, and Raiders over the next four weeks before its Week 10 bye.
