Kayvon Thibodeaux calls out San Francisco 49ers in NFC Championship
A lot of things led to the NFC Championship Game not being nearly as competitive as some expected. The San Francisco 49ers came way short in Philadelphia as the Eagles defeated them 31-7 to advance to Super Bowl LVII. However, New York Giants rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux took it a step further after his team was knocked out of the postseason last weekend.
Thibodeaux shared a tweet that said, based on that performance, New York might actually have been better than the 49ers in the end.
You can’t blame Thibodeaux for feeling this way. San Francisco struggled to get anything going on Lincoln Financial Field. The 49ers got dominated by Philly in every phase of the game all afternoon long.
With that said, there’s a certain amount of context that Thibodeaux’s take is lacking. The 49ers were already coming in starting their third-string quarterback in Brock Purdy, although the rookie had been great all the way down the stretch of the season. After an elbow injury knocked him out for a stretch, they then went to their QB4 in Josh Johnson. The team then seemingly even considered Christian McCaffrey as an option at quarterback.

So, both opinions have some truth to them. Thibodeaux can definitely feel as though the Giants were a more worthy contender after today’s disappointing NFC matchup. Even so, the 49ers were not at their best for several reasons that either were or were not in their control which also needs to be taken into consideration.
WATCH: Jalen Hurts leads Philadelphia fans in Fly Eagles Fly fight song
After Philadelphia punched their ticket to Super Bowl LVII, Eagles fans sang their fight song alongside Jalen Hurts. Terry Bradshaw joked that he had heard that Philadelphia fans love to sing as he gave the microphone to Hurts.
Hurts then took the moment to sing Fly Eagles Fly with the entire stadium, for better or worse.
