Keyshawn Johnson says Tony Romo was major diva with Cowboys

While the focus for tonight’s game has been on Dak Prescott and Tom Brady, former Cowboys wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson brought up another Dallas quarterback. Evidently, Johnson didn’t think too highly of Prescott’s predecessor while he was in Dallas, Tony Romo.

In an appearance on ESPN’s First Take, Keyshawn Johnson called Romo a word that players never want to hear about themselves — a diva.

 “Tony Romo was one of the most diva-ish dudes that I’ve ever been around at that position!” Johnson said. “And he wasn’t even starting at the time.

“I think Tony might’ve even been on the practice squad. Major diva though.”

Moreover, Johnson used Romo as his example to prove that quarterbacks are bigger divas than his position group, wide receivers. However, Romo seems to be an odd choice. The pair never even saw the field together in Johnson’s two seasons with Dallas.

Continuing, Johnson stated that wide receivers have more constraints placed on them than quarterbacks do. While players like Romo and Aaron Rodgers can ask for more money and show emotion, Johnson believes that wide receivers are unfairly criticized for doing the same. 

“Can’t say anything bad to the quarterback,” Johnson said. “If you say something to him, if you scream at him or yell at him — you’re a problem.

“They always got to have the, ‘Look at his pretty face. His hairstyle. Oh, what about his suit!’ All diva stuff. Everything.”

In Johnson’s two seasons with Dallas, he accumulated 1,820 receiving yards and 12 touchdown receptions. As for Romo, he didn’t attempt a pass in the NFL until the next season, when Johnson was with the Carolina Panthers.

While Keyshawn Johnson was a decent wide receiver for the Cowboys, he’s not going to make any friends in Dallas if he bad mouths a Dallas legend in Tony Romo.
