WATCH: Kyrie Irving makes obscene gesture to Boston fans after big shot
Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving made an obscene gesture to his former fanbase in Boston after hitting a big shot in game one of their series. Irving played two seasons with the Celtics before joining the Nets in 2019, leaving with a rocky relationship with the team and fans. The former Duke star was lighting up the scoreboard in their first round opener, and let the fans know he heard the boos.
Kyrie Irving makes rude gesture to Boston fans
As the Nets traveled to Boston for the first round of the NBA playoffs, Irving heard it from the crowd from the moment the game started. Hearing boos from the crowd whenever he would touch the ball and cheers whenever anything went wrong, it was clear that Irving was the enemy to the Celtics.
After a tough shot from Irving with the shot clock running out, Irving showed that the crowd had gotten to him a little bit — casually flipping off the crowd as he ran back down the court.

Irving’s season has been a wild ride for Brooklyn as his refusal to get vaccinated turned him into a part-time player. With mandates in his home gym preventing unvaccinated players from playing, Irving was only useable in road games for the team. Right before the end of the season however, the mandates were lifted that prevented him from playing in Barclays Center and allowed him to be fully available for the Nets’ playoff run.
Despite a fantastic game from Irving, the Celtics fans got the last laugh as game one ended with an incredible last-second shot from Jayson Tatum for the 115-114 victory. Irving scored 39 points in the loss, including a 6-for-10 performance from three-point range. Boston now leads the series 1-0, putting additional pressure on a Nets team that began the season with championship aspirations.
