Louis Riddick compares Cam Ward to Patrick Mahomes, claps back at fans following online criticism

Louis Riddick recently compared Cam Ward to Patrick Mahomes and is not backing down depsite online backlash. On Wednesday, Riddick appeared on ESPN’s NFL Live and explained why he believes Ward looks like the three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback.
“He reminds me of Patrick, he remind me of Mahomes with how he can be unconventional, throw the football from all different kinds of weird angles, and then just put a bunch of horsepower on it when he needs to,” Riddick said. “If someone was telling me hey, that’s maybe what you’re getting, I’d be prety damn excited. I’m not saying I’m exactly right, but that’s my bet Cam Ward will have that kind of impact and play you that kind of style of football in Tennessee if they happen to select him No. 1.”
The video was posted on social media, and fans quickly fired back at Louis Riddick. This led to the ESPN NFL analyst clapping back at fans. “People talking to me about not using Mahomes as a comp,” Riddick wrote on X/Twitter. I was THE FIRST to say Mahomes would light it up before he ever played a snap.
Will Cam Ward be the next Patrick Mahomes?
Comparing Cam Ward to Patrick Mahomes is a bold move by Riddick as Mahomes is arguably the top player in the NFL. Despite losing the Super Bowl in February, Mahomes is the most accomplished player in the league with three Super Bowl wins, three Super Bowl MVP awards and two NFL MVP awards.

Mahomes is not the only QB comparison for Ward. In February, Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus compared Ward to former Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger. “Ward is an unorthodox gunslinger, and the NFL comparison my mind keeps going back to is Ben Roethlisberger,” Sikkema wrote. “Both had some scoot with their escapability, but you wouldn’t exactly call them mobile. Both were also fearless in pushing the ball deep down the field. It’s a high-end comparison, but I believe Ward sees the game like Big Ben did.”
Ward played just one season at Miami and made the most of it. In 2023, the 22-year-old won the Davey O’Brien Award, the Manning Award and was named ACC Player of the Year after throwing for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns in 13 games.
