Luis Arraez injury update: Padres star transported to hospital after scary collision vs. Astros

The San Diego Padres shared an injury update on Luis Arraez after his scary collision in the game against the Houston Astros. The team announced he was transported to a local hospital and is “stable.”
“Luis Arraez has been transported to Houston Methodist Hospital for further evaluation,” the Padres wrote on X/Twitter. “He is currently stable, conscious, responsive, and able to move his extremities.”
Arraez collided with Astros second baseman Mauricio Dubón in the first inning and remained on the ground for an extended period of time. Arraez’s face collided with Dubón’s shoulder, and the incident led to an 11-minute delay. Padres manager Mike Shildt and multiple members of the training staff tended to Arraez before he was stretchered off the field.
Losing Arrarez for an extended period of time would be a big blow for the Padres who are looking to win a World Series. He joined the early last season after a trade with the Miami Marlins and won the batting title for the third consecutive season. Arraez became the first player in MLB history to win three consecutive batting titles with three different teams. He won it with the Minnesota Twins in 2022 and the Marlins in 2023.
Luis Arraez has been compared to Tony Gwynn
“He’s just a really special talent,” Shildt said on Saturday night, per MLB.com. “Just amazing what he can do with that bat in his hand. He’s just got the ability to use the whole field, as he demonstrated tonight.”

“Just see the ball,” Arraez said of his approach, which will not include selling out for power. “I don’t want to change anything. I just want to continue to [hit to all fields].”
Because of how Aarrez plays the game, he has been compared to Padres legend and Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn. “I honestly had goosebumps watching him put together at-bats,” Gwynn’s son Tony Gwynn Jr. said last year, per ESPN. “It took me back to watching film with my dad as he was basically doing the same thing.”
Arraez is looking to make history this year, as he has a chance to join half of dozen players who have won four batting titles in a row. They are They are Ty Cobb (nine straight from 1907-15), Rogers Hornsby (six in a row from 1920-25), Honus Wagner (1906-1909), Rod Carew (1972-75), Wade Boggs (1985-88) and Tony Gwynn (1994-97).
