Heading into his second year in New England, former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is dialed in on all the ways he can become a better player in 2022. Jones is staying in the Foxborough area during the offseason, despite hailing from sunny Florida.

“I want to be back close to home in New England in the offseason because we obviously have our place there,” Jones said, via Mass Live. “Just figuring out ways to be a better quarterback and then do whatever we can to put more points up on the board so we can win more games.”

In his first year, the former Tide star led the Pats to the playoffs for the first time since Tom Brady’s departure. He finished his rookie season with 4,033 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.

“This offseason will be a big, big part of it, just getting stronger and cleaning up on my diet and all that,” Jones said. “So there’s a lot that’s gonna go into it before next season even starts. That’s the important part, attacking that, and then hopefully a lot of big changes will come, with whether it’s mechanics or the playbook. I have a lot of time now to kind of digest everything and kind of take it over, how I want to do it.”

Mac Jones is quick to point out that his overall physique could use some work. He got big laughs when he shared at the Pro Bowl that he indulges in ice cream too much.

“I like ice cream too much, like a lot of people,” Jones said. “Just limit it and then try and eat healthy, like we do at the Patriots. I just got to talk to Ted (Harper), our nutritionist, and make sure we’re on the same page.”

Mac Jones plans to lean on Alabama experience

Patriots quarterback Mac Jones shrugged off the challenge he’s facing in 2022 after the departure of offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

Knowing that the Patriots are about to undergo at least some sort of transition on offense, the young signal-caller remains confident. Part of Jones’ confidence comes from his Alabama days, where he worked alongside multiple offensive coordinators.

“Yeah, I’m really happy for Josh and his family,” Jones said, via NBC Sports’ Nick Goss. “It’s a great family and he definitely deserves a shot at this thing, and I’m happy for him and he’s gonna do a great job.

“And in terms of moving forward, I mean, it’s not my first rodeo with dealing with a new coordinator. At Alabama. I think back to all the different guys I’ve worked with and I have a lot of experience with learning a new — we’re gonna keep the same system but, you know, new terminology here and there. I know coach (Bill) Belichick will have a plan. I’m looking forward to working just getting better as a player regardless of who’s out there with us.”
