Miami signs former long-time New Orleans lineman to major contract
The Miami Dolphins have signed a former lineman for the New Orleans Saints to a major contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Dolphins signed Terron Armstead to a five-year contract worth $87.5 million as he enters his 10th season in the NFL. Armstead has played for New Orleans since being drafted by them in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft from Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

“Dolphins giving offensive tackle Terrron Armstead a five-year deal worth up $87.5 million, including $43.37 million guaranteed,” stated Schefter on Tuesday.
The contract secures a major piece for the Dolphins offensive line as Armstead brings a decade of experience along with him. Armstead started 93 games for the Saints over the past nine seasons, earning three straight Pro Bowl nominations from 2018 through the 2020 seasons.

The Dolphins addressing their front line issues seems to be a major priority for them, after a poor showing by their linemen last season. The Dolphins allowed a league-worst 235 pressures on their quarterback, in an offense that doesn’t call for Tua Tagovailoa to drop back often. While teams like Kansas City and Cincinnati have invested heavily in their offensive lines following poor performances, Miami seems to be on the same track after signing Armstead.
Breakout star Jaylen Waddle is joined now by Cedrick Wilson and Trent Sherfield, and Mike Gesicki returns under the franchise tag. With a running back room that includes Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert on new contracts, the Miami offense will have talent and weapons at their skill positions. The draft will likely be an opportunity for them to find great pieces on the line to surround Tagovailoa. With a year-long cloud hanging over the Dolphins as they continued to make an effort for Deshaun Watson to take over the position, Tagovailoa appears to be the main guy in Miami for the immediate future.
