Micah Parsons is the clear favorite for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. The Dallas Cowboys’ first-round selection out of Penn State is exactly what every general manager wants.
There hasn’t been a more beloved and impactful defensive star in Dallas than Demarcus Lawrence. The pass rushing specialist and team leader is finally set to take the field and help a defense that isn’t perfect, but made major strides since Dan Quinn took over.
With Lawrence set to return after having to watch from the sidelines all season, he took the podium and was asked about the new rookie, who has posted dominant stats so far.
According to a tweet from John Machota, who covers the Cowboys for The Athletic, Lawrence gave Parsons the ultimate compliment as Dallas prepares for a pivotal game vs. Washington.
“DeMarcus Lawrence on Micah Parsons: ‘I always knew Micah was an athlete … but just to see him in live action and to see him really take over a game like he does, it’s impressive. I heard somebody called him the little LT. I’m like, ‘Yes, we do have a little LT on our team,'” Machota tweeted.
Lawrence clearly wasn’t making a reference to Ladanian Tomlinson, the former Chargers’ running back who was one of the best backs in the league for a long time.
Instead, Lawrence was clearly referring to Lawrence Taylor. After setting selected by the New York Giants as the second overall pick in 1981, Taylor dominated immediately, which is why a comparison to Micah Parsons isn’t too far-fetched.
The versatile defensive star was the type of player who literally changed the course of history in the NFL. He won several defensive awards after his rookie season and is both the first and currently only NFL player to win the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in his rookie season.

Often regarded as the most dominant pass rusher to ever play in the NFL, this sort of statement from one of the few players that has credibility to make such a bold proclamation is telling.
In 12 games so far as a rookie, Micah Parsons has totaled 72 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 25 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, and two passes defended. He has played at linebacker and defensive line, providing much-needed versatility to a Cowboys defense that has been shorthanded throughout the year.
Micah Parsons sets bold goal for end of rookie season with Cowboys
Micah Parsons has been a star on the Dallas Cowboys defense during his rookie season. The rookie linebacker out of Penn State has wreaked havoc on opposing offenses all season long. Despite his early success, Parsons isn’t done setting goals for the rest of his rookie season with the Cowboys.
Parsons thinks there are bigger things ahead for the Cowboys, according to The Athletic’s Jon Machota.
“The Super Bowl, playoffs, you got five games left,” Parsons said. “There’s stuff to be done … I don’t think it’s time for me to sit on my couch, smiling, eating Cheetos. I’m trying to do something way bigger than anybody thought we could do this year.
The rookie star is constantly growing and even his head coach, Mike McCarthy set goals for Parsons specifically.
With Demarcus Lawrence now considered the “old” man on the squad, it will be exciting to see the two freakish quarterback menacing players suit up together.
