Micah Parsons wants to be let loose. However, the Dallas Cowboys are being cautious with their first round selection as he prepares for his rookie season.

The former Penn State linebacker has been lobbying for more playing time, something he received in his second preseason game.

“It felt really good,” Parsons said, via the team’s website. “I feel like I was able to get into more of a rhythm tonight. Really just get the groove of playing fast by being out there playing more.

“It just felt good to play.”

When asked if there was one particular play that he thought was the best of the night, Parsons said we haven’t seen anything yet.

“There wasn’t one particular play, I felt like I wasn’t able to fully go-go yet,” said Parsons. “I feel like the leash is still on, but we’re gonna let it off soon.”

Later, Parsons elaborated on what he meant by his declaration.

“We’re just being very limited right now, not trying to show too much and things like that” stated Parsons. “I’m kind of just biting my tongue because I know what we’re really capable of.”

Even though the Cowboys defense may be waiting to unleash their first round pick, Parsons showed off his impressive speed against the Houston Texans. In the first half, Parsons ruined a play for Texans quarterback Tyrod Taylor, forcing an incompletion.

Evidently, Parson’s dynamic ability will be vital to the Cowboys defense this season.

“I want to be the queen of linebackers.”

Earlier this month, Parsons made a statement that turned heads around the league. However, it was a perfect way to describe the rookie linebacker’s goals for his NFL career.

“I want to be the queen of linebackers,” the former Penn State Nittany Lion said.

For clarification, Parsons was making a chess reference. While he said he wants to be the queen, he elaborated saying that in theory, he’ll still be king in a way.

“Being a versatile player makes it a challenge for anybody to stop it, anybody to scheme up,” Parsons said. “You want to kind of be like a queen on the board, you don’t ever want to be a rook and only go straight, or only go sideways. You want to be able to go diagonal, and I think that’s what makes the queen so strong. I just kind of want to be the queen of linebackers … but a king, in a way.”

King or queen, as long as Micah Parsons lives up to his hype he’ll become royalty for the Dallas Cowboys. Once he’s finally unleashed this season, the tremendous potential he possesses can finally shine through.
