Dallas Cowboys rookie linebacker Micah Parsons has become a lock for defensive rookie of the year – and many believe he stands a chance in the defensive player of the year race – but fans took things to another level Sunday with MVP chants in the tunnel. Even more impressive, the chants came at the Washington Football Team’s FedEx Field.

Micah Parsons has put up numbers worthy of MVP chants this season for the Dallas Cowboys, turning heads as he moves from position to position in order to help the defense while continuing to reach the quarterback. He has gone from linebacker to defensive end and now back to linebacker without a shift in success.

“Blessed,” Parsons posted with a crying emoji. “Y’all make me want to cry cowboys nation!”

Since Week 9 of the season, he’s racked up 9.5 sacks (most in the NFL), 16 quarterback hits (most in the NFL), 10 tackles for loss (most in the NFL), and three forced fumbles (tied for most in the NFL).

If Parsons does win NFL Defensive Player of the Year, he will be the first player to win Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year since Lawrence Taylor. Taylor is a Hall-of-Famer and Parsons is on pace to enter the same conversation with the game’s best.

With his two sacks against Washington today, Parsons now has 12 sacks in 2021, 2.5 shy of the all-time rookie record (14.5 sacks) set by former Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jevon Kearse.

Micah Parsons sets sights high

The Cowboys have dealt with a plethora of injuries on the defensive side of the ball this season. Dallas has not played fully healthy on the defensive line most of the season until this week, forcing Parsons to play more up front that he traditionally would as a linebacker. But Parsons thrived in that role. And now that the team is healthy, Parsons is able to play freely at multiple positions throughout games and confuse the offensive line.

While Parsons has had a great year for the Cowboys, he is not ready for it to end, and he wants to achieve a lot more than just individual accolades. He wants the Cowboys to win a Super Bowl.

“The Super Bowl, playoffs, you got five games left,” Parsons said. “There’s stuff to be done … I don’t think it’s time for me to sit on my couch, smiling, eating Cheetos. I’m trying to do something way bigger than anybody thought we could do this year.”
