Former Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski tipped his cap to Tom Brady after the quarterback’s retirement. Coach K, one of the greatest basketball coaches in the sport’s history, praised a fellow GOAT.

While some, like former Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth, believe Brady could come back if he’s tempted enough, it seems like this was it. Brady announced his retirement and said it was for good.

But Krzyzewski was very fond of Brady and the way he played the game for over two decades.

‘“I love the way he did that,” Krzyzewski said on Basketball and Beyond. “Let’s get right to the point. And look, you’re talking about the greatest quarterback ever, the greatest champion ever in NFL history. And when I think of pressure points in big games, who would you want quarterbacking your team more than him? I mean, he produced, whatever his stats are, they’re great. But stats under pressure and in big games come on.

“Just an incredible champion, represented the sport in amazing fashion and the longevity that he has. Which is really you know, he had a commitment to being physically and mentally prepared each game, each year. And that’s great. Congratulations to him.”

Brady won seven Super Bowls in his career, six with the Patriots and one with the Bucs. Brady spent 20 seasons with the Patriots before opting to sign with the Bucs ahead of the 2020 season.

He won a Super Bowl in his first season in Tampa Bay over the Kansas City Chiefs. Brady retired as the NFL’s all-time leading passer.

Krzyzewski called Brady the greatest quarterback ever. It’s hard to argue against that point, although it’s certainly up for debate.

Either way, Brady said it was finally time to step away after Year 23 in the NFL.

“Good morning, guys. I’ll get to the point right away,” Brady said. “I’m retiring for good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first, so I won’t be long winded. You only get one super emotional retirement essay and I used mine up last year.

“Thank you guys so much, to every single one of you for supporting me, my family, my friends, teammates, my competitors. And I could go on forever. There’s too many. Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all.”
