Mike McCarthy provides update on handful of Dallas Cowboys injuries
The bye week is coming at a great time for the Dallas Cowboys. After quarterback Dak Prescott revealed a calf injury after Sunday night’s win over the Patriots, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has revealed updates on some more injuries across the team.
Cowboys’ starting left tackle Tyron Smith has been dealing with both neck and ankle injuries. Smith played on Sunday and came out of the game in “good shape,” per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. Defensive lineman Brent Urban and cornerback Maurice Canady also came out of the game with injuries. Urban has a triceps injury while Canady is in the concussion protocol.
Additionally, McCarthy is “hopeful” that wide receiver Michael Gallup can return to practice after the bye week, per Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. Gallup is on injured reserve with a calf issue. His injury is one on a long list of injuries on the Cowboys’ offense in recent weeks. Gallup will likely slide back into his role as the team’s third receiver behind Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamn once he is able to return.
The Cowboys will have an extra week to recover from injuries
If you’re Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys, the bye week comes with perfect timing with injuries piling up. The bye week specifically comes at a great time for Dak Prescott. Prescott has dealt with a few injuries dating back to last season for the Cowboys. His gruesome leg injury gets a lot of attention, but he also dealt with shoulder issues in the preseason. Now, his calf issue is another thing to monitor as the season goes on.
