Mike McCarthy gives injury update on Cowboys, Amari Cooper
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy spoke in a press conference Monday and gave an injury update on wide receiver Amari Cooper. McCarthy explained that the injury Cooper sustained near the end of the game was a combination of the hit he took and a previous injury he had gotten last week.
Cowboys injury update on Amari Cooper
Speaking with reporters following the Cowboys’ win against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, McCarthy fielded questions about his team and the game. A big question asked was the status of Amari Cooper who left the game late with bruised ribs.
“Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said wide receiver Amari Cooper suffered a ribs bruise Sunday versus the Chargers,” detailed Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken. “Defensive tackle Carlos Watkins has a knee sprain. Defensive end Dorance Armstrong [has an] injured ankle.”
When discussing the state of injuries for his team, McCarthy gave a timeline for when they would know more about Cooper’s injury. The Cowboys will evaluate Cooper on Wednesday in a mock game situation and go from there.
“We had a couple guys [injured],” stated McCarthy. “Amari had the ribs. We’ll see Wednesday how he feels. We’ll go a mock game on Wednesday.”
When asked if the injury was a bruise or more severe like a cracked rib, McCarthy explained that it wasn’t being treated as a severe injury.

“I would put it in the classification as bruised.”
“It was that play and then it was something he’d been dealing with a little bit from last week,” McCarthy said when asked if Cooper’s injury came from an early collision in the end zone.
Big win for the Cowboys
After scoring a game-tying field goal with less than four minutes in the game, the Chargers kickoff was returned to the Dallas 23-yard line. On the return, Dallas committed a holding penalty that pushed them back to the 13-yard line.
Quarterback Dak Prescott then led the Cowboys down the field 49 yards on 11 plays. After getting into long field goal range, Greg Zuerlein redeemed his mistakes in week one against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Cowboys ended the game without Dak Prescott scoring a touchdown, but with running back Tony Pollard having a huge game with 109 yards and a touchdown. In a close game, turnovers kept Dallas in the game with two interceptions including a redzone takeaway.
