Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin provided an update on the training camp status of receiver Diontae Johnson on Monday. Johnson is present at camp with the team and working out with quarterbacks, but has refused to participate in team drills while awaiting a new contract.

According to Tomlin, Johnson and the Steelers have not yet made any progress as he continues his “hold-in” for a long-term deal.

“There wasn’t any [update] today. We’ll see what tomorrow holds,” is all Tomlin said of Johnson’s return to the field this week.

The star receiver did not attend the first week of OTAs with his team, but did appear for the second week. He also participated in the Steelers’ mandatory minicamp and showed up on time for training camp — although he has not participated in team drills yet.

Johnson earned Pro Bowl honors for the first time of his career last season, pushing what he believes his value is up to the level of other top receivers around the league. In the final year of his rookie contract, Johnson is set to receive a base salary of just $2.79 million this season.

Johnson has improved steadily in every season with the Steelers — amassing 680 yards and five touchdowns during his rookie season, then upping those statistics to 923 yards and seven touchdowns in his second season. His best season came in his third year, where Johnson caught 107 passes for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns last season.

While receivers around the league sign major contracts this offseason, Johnson previously spoke about seeing it happen while he’s awaiting a new deal of his own.

“It’s not like you don’t see it,” Johnson said. “You see it. A bell rings in your head like, such and such got this and such and such got that. I try not to look at that or pocket watch. Whoever gets the contract, they deserve it. They obviously put in the time and work.
