WATCH: Mike Tomlin stops local kids from fighting, invites them to Steelers practice

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had some special guests at practice this week that he invited after an unlikely encounter on the street. Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer shared what he called the “best story” of his NFL training camp tour this summer on Twitter on Thursday.

Apparently, Tomlin was driving down the street when he noticed a group of kids fighting. He pulled over and got out of the car, resulting in a shocked response from the youngsters. The Steelers skipper spent a “few hours” with the kids who all attend the same community center and ultimately, invited them to practice.

“The entire team loved these kids up yesterday,” Glazer tweeted. “Beautiful scene.

“THIS IS WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT!!! What a moment for these kids at @steelers training camp!! They were coached by their new friend and did drills with @ohthatsNajee22 …who else wants to join in?”

Glazer shared Tomlin’s story on Twitter along with a video of the kids going through drills with former Alabama running back Najee Harris:

Tomlin updates quarterback plan versus Jaguars

Mike Tomlin and the Steelers are preparing to face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday in the second preseason game. Tomlin revealed on Thursday that he plans to start Mitch Trubisky once again. All three quarterbacks will once again play versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, the rotations will be different with Kenny Pickett sliding up to the QB2 spot over Mason Rudolph.

Last week, Trubisky threw 4/7 passes against Seattle for 63 yards and a touchdown. Rudolph went next with 9/15 passing for 93 yards and a score. However, Pickett ended up stealing the show. The rookie threw 13/15 passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns. One of those TDs came on a game-winning drive that gave the Steelers the 32-25 victory.

While it’s not a full-on promotion for Pickett, Tomlin sees this as a substantial step in his development.

“This is a big week for (Pickett) in terms of maybe getting in in the first half of this game and I would imagine getting the opportunity to see frontline defenders for Jacksonville,” Tomlin said.
