Mikel Brown, Jr. is the No. 11 player in the 2025 On3 50. The 6-foot-0 point guard played up with the SE Elite program on the Adidas 3SSB 17u Circuit this summer. The sophomore averaged 12.6 points, 2.9 assists, and shot 35 percent from three.

“I’m an all-around point guard,” Brown told On3. “I will listen to the coach and do what he needs me to do, but at the same time, making plays is what I do best. I take pieces of Darius Garland and Trae Young, everyone really, and try to implement some of what they all do into my game.”

Brown transferred to Bel Aire (KS) Sunrise Christian this summer. On3 caught up with Mikel Brown, Jr after a recent live scouting trip to talk about the current state of his recruitment.

“We’ve been talking to Florida a lot and Indiana right now,” Brown said. “I’ve taken two unofficial visits to Texas A&M and Kansas. My most recent offer is from Kansas.”

Brown talks recruitment

Texas A&M: “Their culture is really good, I would say. Coach Buzz (Williams) and their entire staff really make sure their guys are hard workers. They play tough, and I really like that.”

Florida: “They want me to come back home, put on for my state. My parents and my family got to go look at the campus, I wasn’t with them, but they said it was really nice and had nothing but good things to say about everything there.”

Indiana: “They are always in contact; both their coaching staff and Coach (Mike) Woodson are always talking with us. Their coaching staff is great as well.”

Kansas: “Their program is a winning program. Coach (Bill) Self and all their assistants, I mean, they won the championship last year. I went to go to the Phog (Allen Fieldhouse), and it was a great atmosphere.”

“We’ve heard from Gonzaga too, Illinois,” Brown said. “They might be close to offering.”

In Brown’s words

“I want to go to a program that will, really, somewhere that will let me be me,” Brown said. “A place that will let me run the team, obviously that is the coach’s choice, but I want to be coachable.”

Scouting report

Mikel Brown, Jr. is a smallish point guard with a huge heart and basketball IQ. Brown has a developed skill set, one that allows him to play with the utmost confidence. He has a slick handle with great footwork, putting the ball in the right spots during a game. Brown is also a smooth shooter with deep and consistent range. His size will bring questions. He needs to add strength, and with that will come more burst and pop. He has an understanding of defensive concepts when it comes to footwork and rotations, but he will need to continue adding strength on that end as well. Brown is poised beyond his years with the ball in his hands and is the type of point guard who makes those around him better offensively.
