Kellen Mond's fathers shares why former Texas A&M quarterback was in Mike Zimmer's doghouse

Minnesota Vikings’ second-year quarterback Kellen Mond saw little to no action in his rookie year with the team. And according to the former Texas A&M Aggies father, his son was in the doghouse with former head coach Mike Zimmer. But Mond’s father didn’t stop there as he explained why his son was in the doghouse with Zimmer.

According to local Minnesota sports writer Chris Tomasson, the rookie quarterback might’ve been a pawn in Zimmer’s game.

“Kellen was in (Zimmer’s) doghouse from the start because of the draft and then number two [because] COVID.. He wasn’t going to give him the time and Zimmer not playing him at the end of the year (last game) was personally to me Zimmer just sticking his thumb at Spielman,” said Mond’s father Kevin, Tomasson wrote via Twitter.

Despite the Vikings being eliminated from the playoffs earlier than anticipated, Zimmer did not allow his rookie quarterback an opportunity to showcase his skills. Mond finished his rookie campaign attempting just three passes and completing two of them for a grand total of five yards.

Oftentimes we don’t hear from professional players about what happens behind the scenes with difficult situations they’re currently involved in. However, it’s a good thing that there are those who are willing to speak on behalf of the players like Mond’s father did. And now that the Zimmer era is over in Minnesota, Mond has an excellent chance to compete with last year starter Kirk Cousins for playing time.

Jimbo Fisher explains why Texas A&M’s Isaiah Spiller will find success in the NFL

After starring at Texas A&M, Isaiah Spiller is taking his talents to the NFL. His now-former coach had some high praise for him after the 2022 NFL Draft, too.

Jimbo Fisher spoke after the draft and said he thinks Spiller can have a successful NFL career. He pointed to a few different reasons why, notably his wide skill set and his ability to adjust to whatever is thrown at him from a scheme standpoint.

“I think he’s very diverse,” Fisher said of Spiller earlier this month. “He has great size. He’s a very natural runner. He runs between the tackles, runs outside, pass-blocks and can catch the football. I mean, he’s a very intelligent guy and he’s a very competitive guy. … He’s been very productive. We’ve used him very well and he’s been a great player for us. And he’s a high-character young man. Again, very intelligent.

“I think he’ll pick up schemes. The system he’s been in, he’ll be able to adapt. Plus, he can run between the tackles and he can run outside. … He plays fast. That’s the other thing I think is very important in pro ball.”

The Los Angeles Chargers drafted Spiller No. 123 overall in the fourth round of the draft. He put on quite a show in his three years in College Station, rushing for 2,993 yards and 25 touchdowns during that time.
